unable

BY hannah turner, yale ’24

i sit alone in a corner of the hospital

crying out in pain and fear

unable to stomach the green mush they gave me.

i wonder how much longer this will go on

a few days

a week

the pain

dragging me

through the days

to the hospital

and on the plane back home.

i wonder at how weak and strong

i am

my body

limited

frustrated

tired

my body

is working hard

is healing

is being healed.

i wonder.

i sit alone but they are in the other room

waiting

with me

there is

Christ

who was

alone

crying out in pain and fear

but trusted

infinitely able to do all things

but surrendered His abilities

for me

for us.
